My Dog- “The Trust Whisperer”

Psalm 62:8-“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”

Peyton & Chewey

We are a dog family.  I have had dogs since I was a little girl and could not imagine it any other way.  My husband thinks it is trendy to give our mutts designer dog names.  Currently we have a 3 year old “Staffordor” (Staffordshire & Lab mix) Peyton and a 1 ½ year old “Shepador” (German Shepard & Lab mix) Chewey.   What I find so amazing is their unconditional love for us as their owners.  They always greet us with wagging tails, yips of excitement, and eager for our love and attention.

CheweyA couple weeks ago Chewey started acting strange.  By the next morning his neck was swollen and he would not eat.  Thinking he was stung by a bee or a wasp, we doctored him through the weekend and made the decision to take him to the vet on Monday morning.  After some tests and a few days of waiting, it was apparent Chewey had been bitten by a poisonous snake.  This poor puppy could not tell us what was going on, but his actions clearly stated he was very sick.  As I doctored his wounds and looked into his big brown eyes, I could see his pain and yet he allowed me to comfort and take care of him.  Chewey trusted me: implicitly.

I need to have the same implicit trust in my God.  In Proverbs 3:5-6 it says, “Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.”  In all circumstances, I have to trust God knows what is right and perfect for me and will allow for growth to happen if I submit with all my heart to Him.   When I witness so much death, pain, and anguish in this world, I have to trust in God’s plan.  I continue to look up and focus on my purpose in His perfect, orchestrated, timing of events.   One way I build my trust with God is to read and study His word.  The bible is a beautifully written story about trust, faith, hope, and love.  I grow closer in my relationship with God as I study His word and work on submitting to Him in all facets of my life.  It is a daily, spiritual work out which  grows and strengthens my bond with Him.

Chewey is doing much better.  Still on the mend, but back to his old goober self.  Now when I have to doctor the affected area, he lies down, rolls over, and waits for me to apply the medicine!  He is eager once again to please others and totally trusts me to take care of him.  His actions remind me of the importance of trust is in all my relationships, especially the one with my Father. Chewey & Peyton
