In His Name

//I was sitting by the captain of the sailboat with the wind and sea spray on my face.  The sun was bright and was brilliantly reflecting off the Caribbean blue ocean.  For our ten year anniversary, my husband and I sailed on a barefoot cruise.  One of the best vacations-EVER!  For seven days we sailed around the British Virgin Islands with two other couples, a captain, and a chef.

Every day we would experience a new sight on a different island.  At one point, we sailed from Virgin Gorda to Anegada which was about a three to four-hour sail.  I remember sitting up with the captain and looking to the horizon where we were heading and saw nothing but vivid blue waters.  I turned around and looked behind me at the same mesmerizing blue waters.  No land in sight.  Here we were, on a forty-eight-foot catamaran in between land masses and totally surrounded by water.  I did not panic,  but a brief chill crawled down my back as I thought to myself, “How small and insignificant am I right now.”

I sometimes experience the same feeling of insignificance in my daily hustle and bustle of life.  Where I think I don’t make a difference or am lost in the sea of so many others, overlooked, and offer too little to be noticed.  I am reminded of the David and Goliath story in the bible.  David, a young teen, who was anointed by Samuel per God’s instruction was the smallest and youngest in his family.  When it came time for him to rise up against Goliath and the Philistines, David did so in the name of God and was victorious.

In His precious name.

All I need to remember the next time I feel little or insignificant is God is bigger.  He loves me and has a purpose for me in my life.  I need to meet the day to day challenges head on, in His name.  I will continue in faith no matter what my circumstances may lead me to believe.  I am where I need to be.//

‘“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”’-Jeremiah 29:11
